McLaren F1 To Be Resurrected

Yeah I know, I'm a bit behind the times with this one. What can I say, I've been busy...probably.

The Mclaren F1 is one of the most iconic cars of recent-ish years and one of the pioneers of the hypercar genre. It was once the fastest roadcar in the world and remains to be one of the only cars to be made with three seat layout.

Autocar has now revealed that the Woking-based company is working on a new model dubbed the 'Hyper GT'. It will pay homage to the legend that is the F1 and the reported price is also rather legendary. Go on, have a guess. No, higher, higher, a little more. Nope, not quite - try £2million on for size.

Like the F1 before it, three seats will be in the cabin and powered dihedral doors will be used to gain access to it. Autocar also report the Hyper GT is likely to be powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.8 litre V8 engine which will deliver 700bhp and a top speed of around 200mph. It won't be an out-and-out sportscar though - as the name suggests it will be a high speed GT car.

Autocar's insiders said: “It applies the F1’s three-seat configuration to a different need: rapid, cross-continental travel with supreme speed and style.

“The result will be the most exquisitely crafted and luxurious road-going McLaren yet made.” McLaren personnel are said to refer to the car as a hyper-GT."

It is unknown what the finished product will look like but Autocar has rendered some images of what it could look like and I have to say it looks rather good. It's not oulandish like a Lambo and it doesn't have the same beauty of an Aston but I can certainly appreciate its looks. I'm getting ahead of myself though as this is simply an idea of what it could look like.

The Hyper GT is expected to come before the turn of the decade and is likely to feature a bespoke version of McLaren's carbon fibre moncage as well as Proactive Chassis Control System, which features on the current McLaren roadcars but is likely to be revised for the Hyper GT.
