Caterham Announces New Seven 310

British sportscar brand has announced a new model called the Seven 310 which will be available to order now, costing £24,995.

What's new?

Not the styling, that's for sure. The Seven 310 retains the classic Caterham styling that we've become accustomed to and it's essentially a Seven 270 that has been upgraded. The Seven 310 is the result of engineering developments by Caterham's motorsport programme and is billed as the best-balanced Seven since the Superlight R300.

Tweaks were made to the engine by Caterham's motorsport division and as a result a 'surprise discovery' was found. An extra 17bhp was able to be squeezed from the system and rather than selling the faster model as an upgraded 270, Lotus decided to form a brand new Seven into its range. The 152bhp engine offers an improved 0-62 time of 4.8 seconds and will get to a top speed of 126mph.

The Seven 310 is also the first model to feature LED headlights - albeit an optional extra - and will also be available on other Seven models in the future.

What if I own a 270?

Don't worry, Lotus hasn't forgotten about you - the upgrade can be purchased for existing 270 models for a fee of £1,495.

Simon Lambert, Chief Motorsport and Technical Officer for Caterham Cars, described the new model as an "unexpected baby" before going on to say: “If Caterham was only going to make one car for the rest of its days, this would be it.”

The new 310 will be delivered to customers in 2017 but is available to order now. This or a Zenos E10 though? Decisions, decisions...
