cap hpi, the automotive data experts has revealed the fastest-selling used cars and in all honesty some are predictable, but there are a few surprises going.
Let's start with the city car genre and surprise, surprise it's the FIAT 500, a car that oozes retro-chic charm in a modern package. The Mini is another popular car but as they hold on their value better the 500 is a cheaper choice, making it a better value buy.
What does Car Obsession think of the 500 though? I tested it a few months back and the review can be found here. Sticking with hatchbacks, the Ford Fiesta is predictably the best-selling used supermini which comes as no surprise as it's also the most popular car by some distance in the new car market.
The most popular convertible is the BMW 3 Series convertible which is no real surprise as the 3 Series is a popular car so it seems natural it'd be the most popular convertible. In fact the coupe also features on the list, under the upper medium class.
The Peugeot 207 Coupe Cabriolet picks up the win for coupe cabriolet class which I found a bit surprising as I must be honest, I don't see many of them on the UK roads. Maybe they are being kept in garages in the hope they're going to be modern classics and therefore kept in pristine condition. Yeah, I know, I'm being silly now.
I actually cannot remember the last time I saw one of these on the road, can you?
Another car which I was surprised to see on the list was the Mitsubishi Carisma - a car I had actually forgotten about. In fact I had to google it to refresh my memory so I don't know who's been buying them and where they have been. The Carisma is the best selling car in the lower medium class and I imagine there weren't many cars to beat in this category to come top.
Ahh, that's more like it...
Let's move on to something about interesting - the most popular supercar the Lamborghini Murcielago whilst the most popular sports car was the Audi TT, a car my wife loves. Footballers have obviously been busy in the used car market as the Bentley Continental GT is the most popular luxury executive car.
Oddly, there is no hybrid on the list but there is an electric car and I was expecting it to be something like the Nissan Leaf but in cap hpi found that the Vauxhall Ampera is currently the fastest-selling electric vehicle on the used market. Again, I've not seen many on the road, in fact I reckon I could on one hand the amount of times I've seen them on the road...
