Drones have become rapidly popular in recent times and Ford has got in on the act by bringing in two of the world’s best drone pilots to create a video called ‘Dronekhana’ – a tribute to the world famous Gymkhana.
The video shot at Ford’s European base in Cologne, Germany shows two drones piloted by Luke Bannister and Brett Collis weave their way through various obstacles including a drifting Focus RS, a Mustang and a robot – naturally. If that wasn’t enough to contend with, the drones also navigate their way through the pillarless doors of the B-Max and fly under the gargantuan Ford Ranger pickup.
To help the pilots glide their machines without incident they have funky goggles which give them a first person view of action, plus it just looks cooler. Helping to capture the action is no less than 36 GoPro Cameras so it’s safe to say every angle is covered.
“It’s basically like stepping into the cockpit. It was a tough course and we had some mishaps – but at least the Mustang’s all right, that’s all that matters,” said 16-year-old World Drone Prix champion Luke Bannister who took on the course with Tornado XBlades team mate and fellow Brit, Brett Collis, 22.
That’s not all though, Ford has also invited five gamers to attempt a Guinness World Record for the longest video marathon on a racing game. The ambitious challenge will take place at Gamescom Europe’s biggest interactive games trade fair and the game used will be Forza Motorsport 6.
The challenge will take place over two days and the car used will be the Ford GT race car which will be raced at the Le Sarthe circuit used for the Le Mans 24 Hours race – a race in which the real life GT won earlier this year.
