A 1973 Jaguar E-Type Series III used in the hit comedy show Only Fools and Horses is set to go to auction by Silverstone Auctions at Salon Privé with an estimate of £75,000-£85,000.
For those of you who do not remember, the car was featured in the second ever episode of the immensely popular BBC series in which Del boy and Rodney borrow Boycie's Jag are tasked with looking after the car for second-hand car dealer Boycie. The Trotter brothers then decide to take it for a night out in the hope of getting some female attention.
It worked too - well, that was until Rodney threw away the cigar park out the car which had the ladies' numbers on them - what a plonker! Del Boy then slams the brakes on the E-Type, causing it to be rear-ended by another motorist - one that had been sold a duff car by Del Boy. Fear not though, the E-Type was not harmed of course, in fact it's been very well looked after throughout its life.
The car is known as Boycie's E-Type but the real owner was businessman from Swansea who was the first and only owner. 79,000 miles have been covered in its lifespan so it's fair to say the Jag got a good amount of usage. It was then kept in a heated garage for ten years before it was lightly restored and given a full service.
A comprehensive service history is included as well as two sets of original keys, MoT valid until May next year and a die-cast model that has been signed by David Jason and John Challis which sits in a frame which includes mounted stills of the car's appearance in the episode.
“It’s one of the joys of the auction world to be able to offer a car that is rather special in every way,” explains Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions. “Not only does it have the distinction of having been featured in one of the best loved television comedies of all time, it’s also a beautiful and extremely well looked after example in largely original condition.”
