MSO – that’s McLaren Special Operations to you – has upgraded another McLaren, this time it’s the turn of the 570GT. The new model will be unveiled at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance which takes place this weekend.
The first thing you’ll notice is the ‘Pearl White’ paintwork which is beautifully contrasted with a Piano Black package which treats the alloys, side skirts, front and rear bumpers/splitters and side inserts to a gloss black finish.
This finish has also been applied to the inside which is lavishly trimmed with tan leather all the way from the dashboard to the touring deck which is access via the sideways opening glass panel. A new feature for the 570GT by MSO is something called an Electro-Chromic Roof – say what now?! Let me explain – it’s a fixed glass roof that has been treated with not only a UV layer but also a electro-chromic interlayer.
It uses a touch-sensitive headlining, which can be used to adjust the opacity from completely clear to a dark tint using five different settings. This sounds revolutionary but in fact you’ll find a similar function on the Ferrari 575 Superamericana from the early noughties – albeit a bit less high-tech. This feature has been under development in the 570GT and will soon be available across the whole MSO collection.
The 570GT by MSO also features an uprated exhaust system which has been developed on the back of the 675LT project – it’s made from titanium and as a result it’s 30% lighter than the system used on the standard model. It should sounder better too – McLaren states that this 570GT will deliver “a progressively richer and more characterful tone more immediately as the revs rise than the standard exhaust”.
If that wasn’t enough, heat shields have been finished with a golden titanium nitride tint, which are visible through the rear air ducts that change from either blue to purple depending on the heat. The 570GT by MSO shares the same engine as the standard car – this means a top speed of 204mph and a 0-62 time of 3.4 seconds but despite this impressive performance figures the 570GT should be more than capable of every day driving, thanks to its practicality.
The price has not been confirmed but I imagine it’s A LOT… Time to get saving…
