Remember Maybach? They were even posher Mercs that were even more luxurious and name-dropped in many rap songs. The name died in 2013 following poor sales but the luxury moniker is back and the new car looks pretty good. You may have seen these pictures already as they were leaked earlier in the week but now Mercedes has given official details on the concept 2+2 seater coupe.
It's electric! No, it really is.
Well to kick things off, it's electric. Yes, I wasn't quite expecting that either if I'm honest but the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 is powered by batteries which produce an output of 750bhp and a range of 500km (311 miles). It'll get to 62mph in under four seconds and on to a top speed of 155mph which is delivered through all four wheels. If you don't fancy doing the driving yourself then don't worry - the Vision 6 has an autonomous mode, meaning you can sit back and relax.
I'm Bach...
The range can be topped up by 100 miles in just five minutes thanks to a charging capacity of 350 Kw and can be charged using a public charging point, domestic socket and it can even be charged wirelessly if you happen to stumble upon a magnetic field - unlikely but who knows?. No matter where you charge it, you'll have the tough task of parking it - the car measures at almost SIX metres long!
Striking looks, inside and out
It looks fantastic in the Maybach Red and the concept sits on wheels that measure in at 24 inches and oh, it has gullwing doors - naturally. No doubt it looks good but the profile looks very similar - albeit longer - to the Jaguar F-Type. That's a lovely shape so it's not a real complaint, more of an opinion. The ultra-long front end features a grille which has been inspired by pinstripe suits and underneath the long, sweeping bonnet you'll find two suitcases which were exclusively created for the Vision 6.
Looks like someone fed a Viagra to a Jaguar F-Type - not a bad thing by any means
Step inside to find a spacious and luxurious cabin which features a dashboard that sweeps around the whole cabin thus creating what Mercedes calls '360° Lounge'. As you'd expect, the seats are made from high-quality leather which is joined by traditional wood trim in the doors and dashboard. Don't think this car is stuck in the past though - the Vision 6 is bang up-to-date (and then some) with the digital world.
Traditional luxury meets digital convenience
The front windscreen provides a full heads-up display and is able to convey information such as driver-related data and geographical information. There is also a digital strip in the cabin which is able to display information regarding maps and the seats which feature body sensor displays.
Very swanky
These sensors scan the passengers and monitor their vital functions. From this, settings including seat climate, massage functions and seat settings can be adjusted. The sensors are also able to a assess factors such as the occupants' clothing and the ambient temperature to alter the lighting effects of the cabin if necessary.
The new concept will make its debut at Monterey Car Week which is in full swing no until the 21st of August, the car will then go on show at the Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance.
