The time in Majorca is currently 1:49am, well it was when I started writing this anyway. I think there is time to squeeze in one more article before I put my head to the pillow and enjoy the first full day of my holiday. Anyway, on to more pressing matters, the new Mercedes E-Class All Terrain, a car that has been recently unveiled by the German marque ahead of it's premiere at the Paris Motor Show, let's have a closer look shall we?
Rugged
You can tell by simply looking at it this model is more rugged and tough than the normal E-Class estate thanks to the durable looking flared wheel arches, which kinda look out of place if you ask me. The front of the car features a three-part bumper which is specific to the new model with body colour covering the top with the bottom one finished in tough plastic to aid toughness. A choice of either 19" or 20" alloy wheels will be available when it's released and the prices are yet to be announced.
What provides the power?
We may not know the price yet but we do know what to expect in terms of power. Under the bonnet of the new All-Terrain will be a newly developed four-cylinder 2.0 litre diesel unit which produces 194bhp with 400Nm of torque. 0-62 comes in a respectable 8.0 seconds and the top speed is 144mph. The fuel economy has not been announced but Mercedes says the engine will be able to produce around 138g/km CO2 emissions.
Anything else?
The new model will have five driving modes, including the All-Terrain driving programme that has been taken from the GLE model. The new E-Class sits on air suspension which three levels of height to make taking it off-road easier and more comfortable, plus the tyres are bigger to help cope with extra demands of rugged, outdoorsy kind of driving as well as aiding comfort.
As mentioned the new model will be on show at this year's Paris Motor Show and more details are bound to come in the next few weeks and months.
