Gimme 5! Ford Adds More Practicality To Fiesta ST

I've always owned five-door hatchbacks, even though I rarely carry passengers in the rear so I could really get by with a three-door, which many argue looks better. I'd be inclined to agree with them although knowing I don't have to faff about when I do happen to have rear passengers is nice. Ford seems to agree with me on this one as it's now added a five-door variant of the award-winning Fiesta ST.

Same hot hatch, more doors

Available from next month, the five-door option will be available on the ST-2 and ST-3 trim levels from a price of £19,495. Good to have there as an option but that does mean it's now not too far behind the ST200 which is priced around £22,000. Ford has estimated that the new five-door option will make up 25% of Fiesta ST sales, probably buyers looking for a cheaper alternative to the Focus ST.

“Ford has now sold more than 38,000 Fiesta STs in Europe since we introduced the acclaimed hot hatchback in 2013, and growing numbers of customers have been asking us for a five-door version,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford of Europe. “The Fiesta ST with five doors makes an affordable Ford Performance driving experience accessible to an even greater number of customers.”

Do you prefer the practicality of the new five-door or do you prefer the sportier looks of the original?
