Hyundai Reveals The RN30 Concept

A fair chunk of the cars I've covered today have been electric and as much as they've been bold in style and design, it's not quite as exciting as the car featured in this article - the Hyundai RN30 Concept.

What is it?

The latest from Hyundai's high-performance N model range, the RN30 is based on the new i30 but don't nod off just yet. This Hyundai means business and it has the credentials to back it up. Under the muscular bonnet is a 2.0 litre turbocharged unit which produces 375bhp and 451Nm of torque, mated to a dual-clutch transmission. The RN30 Concept may be based on the i30 but the car has been beefed up to offer the higher level of performance.

Who needs carbon fibre?

Not content with carbon fibre, Hyundai consulted with chemical specialists BASF to produce high-performance plastics to build the body instead. A body which is 30mm wider than the standard i30 and a staggering 84mm lower! A electronic limited slip diff has also been installed to ensure optimal torque is fed to each wheel when cornering.

Looking and sounding the part

It's got the looks to go with the performance - 19" alloy wheels adorn the racing model as well as the obligatory large rear spoiler and bodykit. It ought to sound good to thanks to Hyundai's Electronic Variable Exhaust system which improves the sound of the RN30. The racing seats have been put back and lowered to give a lower centre of gravity - very useful for racing.

Can I buy one?

This is a motorsport model so it won't be for the average Joe I'm afraid but there will be an i30N coming later which will be available for the masses. Going back to the RN30, cameras are installed in the A-pillars so drivers can capture the action and excitement of their racing. A feature that is unlikely to be carried through to the road-going model but one can only hope...
