Weekend Window Shopping: Mercedes-Benz 190SL

Welcome to a new feature on Car Obsession, Weekend Window Shopping - or WWS for short. The idea of the feature is to highlight some of the wonderful and interesting cars which can be bought online from sites such as Auto Trader.

As this is the first article, I knew I needed something rather special and thankfully I was pointed in the direction of a simply majestic 1958 Mercedes-Benz 190SL. This one is not only immaculate but also boasts the title of filmstar.

Greek origins

It appeared in the 1967 Greek film 'Diplopenies' and was also owned by Greek actress Aliki Vougiouklak who starred in the film and was also the 190SL's first owner. Ok, so you may not have heard of the film OR the actress but you cannot question the car's sheer elegance.

This particular model is believed to be one of just three examples sold in Greece and has covered 88,000 miles. Not bad for a car that's over 50 years old, eh? The car has enjoyed Greece's warm and dry climate and was always stored in a garage when not in use.

UK-Bound

Since it has come to the UK, it has spent time in a de-humidified garage and has been driven just 70 miles. The black vinyl, seats have also been professionally re-covered during its time in Greece and comes with the original service books and FIVA identity card. Fitted under the sleek bonnet is a 1.9 litre straight-four engine which is fitted to a four-speed manual and produces a very modest 104bhp.

But in a car like this who needs speed? This is a stylish cruiser designed to waft about on perfect day. I'm sure the lack of speed will be the last thing on people's mind where they see this beauty go by. At this point you're probably very curious to know the price of this German magnificence, well at £119,950 it's not what you'd call cheap but I'm sure it will be worth every penny.

For more details head on to Auto Trader or Tom Hartley, the luxury dealer who are selling this fine specimen of classic motoring.
