Weekend Window Shopping: Mercedes-Benz 230SL Pagoda

I started this feature wth the simply stupendous Mercedes 190SL and today we return to the German brand with its 230SL Pagoda. This 1965 model caught my attention straight away thanks to its elegant sixties styling. This example is offered by B and M Motors in an original, unrestored condition. The 230SL is based on the W111 sedan but has a wheelbase reduced by 30cm.

This rare car comes in Tunis Beige with a stylish black leather interior. The looks are pure sixties but that's not to say the 230SL does not come with modern day creature comforts - a Becker Mexico stereo provides Bluetooth and sat nav. Don't worry though, the inside still looks as original as when the car first came of the production line.

Powering this German droptop is a 2.3 litre straight-six engine which produces a very modest 150bhp and is mated to a four-speed automatic gearbox. Ok, so it's not fast but this car is more a cruiser rather than a bruiser. This would look perfect on French south cost heading in to Monaco.

The 230SL has covered 86,406 miles and comes with full service history and original booklets. The price for this elegant sixties Merc is £84,950 which is far from cheap but they say money can't buy style - well I suppose in this case it can. For more details go to Auto Trader or bandmcars.co.uk.
