The eighties was a great time for hot hatches with some great cars from the period - cars such as the Peugeot 205 GTI, VW Golf GTI and this, the Ford Escort Turbo RS are great examples of their era. Used examples can be hard to find though and they can be rather pricey for pristine models. It was just this week where a mint condition 205 GTI sold for a world record price over £30,000.
So when I stumbled on this Escort Turbo RS it seemed fitting to include it in this week's WWS. It's a bit cheaper - albeit not by much - at a price of £29,990 and has covered 26,000 miles. Offered in white, this 1985 example features cloth Recaro seats, three-spoke steering wheel, sunroof, Ford spot lamps and 15" RS alloy wheels.
Under the bonnet you'll find 1.6 litre petrol engine with a stage 3 turbo fitted which will get this Essex boy racer to 60mph in 8.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 128mph. As mentioned earlier, it's cover 26,000 miles and is in very good nick cosmetically - it also comes with a comprehensive history for peace of mind.
So if you happened to miss out on the Silverstone Auctions sales of the 205 GTI this Escort RS could well be your next best bet if you're looking for a classic hot hatch. For more details head to Auto Trader or Lawton Brook.
