Weekend Window Shopping: Triumph Spitfire

Your parents may tell you "that they don't make cars like they used to" and there was once a time where small British roadsters reigned supreme on the roads. Those days are long gone but that's not to say these kind of cars still can't be enjoyed in the modern day, just be prepared for quite a bit of maintenance and some infrequent heartache.

Minchins is able to offer such a car, namely a 1970 Triumph Spitfire which has certainly been enjoyed over the years as it's clocked up almost 100,000 miles since new. 98,500 miles may not sound like a lot for a car of its age but these kind of cars aren't always used for everyday use and are often put away in the winter.

Don't however think this Spitfire is close to being retired, it's been restored to keep it ticking it over and tip-top. The 75bhp 1.3 litre engine has been replaced in the two-seater as well as a new overdrive and rear axle. Fair enough, the restoration was back in 2000 but this car's still offered in a good condition indeed.

From an aesthetic perspective, this red Spitfire has also been treated to refurbished chrome, replacement seats, all-new interior trim, period upgrade Triumph alloy wheels and a new mohair cloth roof. So it's clear a lot of time, love and expense has gone in to this car so although the asking price £14,750 may seem high, you'll be buying a great example of great genre of car - the British roadster.
